Akiane Kramarik, a child of self-described atheist parents, was four years old when she started expressing the spiritual images she had been visualizing since she was even younger. Since there was no talk of spirituality in their homes or even outside, these visions sprang directly from Akiane’s being.
Initially, Akiana expressed these visions in the form of drawing and later, writing. At age six, however, she turned to painting, explaining that the visions she saw were “too complex to describe in words.” According to the biography on her website: “Gradually the days became filled with thinking, painting and writing, and at the tender age of eight the self-taught prodigy completed her first five-foot long oil paintings mastering realism equal to that of a seasoned artist.”
Katie Couric has said of Akiane, her paintings are “…complex, vibrant and inspired by an astonishing spiritual connection.” Akiane describes the painting she calls “I Am” as one of the most difficult paintings she had ever done…because “it is based on the question of, who are we? And Why we are here? And what ..what is the place about?”
It took Akiane 6 1/2 months to complete, working many hours a day. Akiane explains, “I think it is because I just wanted to capture that moment of self-realization of who we are and why we are here…I know I that everybody is perfect, everybody is irreplaceable and unique. and I want everyone to get inspired by this painting.” Listen to Akiane talk about her paintings:
Akiane is impassioned. She gets up at 4:30 in the morning, starts painting at 5:00 am and paints for a number of hours each day. This is the kind of diligence and focus only innate passion can evoke. She has produced over 200 paintings. Now 18 years of age, her paintings go for as much as $1 million. She is not only creating through her gift of spatial intelligence, she has apparently found her calling as she shares her experience of a greater understanding with all of us.
